Sam Neill

September 8, 1943 – February 21, 2015

The Class of ’62 has lost a well-known husband, father, grandfather, classmate and friend. Sam passed from this life with his loving wife of 36 years, Cathy, by his side giving the comfort to him that she had done for so long. His passing leaves a void in all of us that only Sam could fill.

We all knew Sam for his infectious smile, humor and overall zest for life. Most of us only had one picture in our ’62 Yearbook but because of Sam’s school spirit and involvement, his smiling face could be seen throughout.

Sam was respected and liked by just about everyone and a friend whose loyalty could always be counted on when it came to “watching your back”. He had a great personality but had no problem defending himself or a friend when the situation warranted.

In all areas of his life Sam was aggressive, focused and always gave 120% to any endeavors he undertook. His personal and business successes are too numerous to mention. He was a proud man and “doer” who always had the courage to strongly state his position and overcome challenges.

All through his final challenge he touched the lives of many. He never gave up and continued his aggressive fighting spirit, focus and unrelenting courage in the face of overwhelming odds. He chose to endure the daily pain rather than take medication that would render him unable to function. Up until his final few days he displayed a degree of bravery not to be duplicated by many.

Sam loved his time with us at Dominguez High School. This was Sam:

To Thee Dominguez High School
The Campus that we love,
For the knowledge gained and
Friends attained,
We thank our God above,
We’ll fight for you Dominguez,
To you we’ll be true,
Your name we’ll praise through
all our days,
And be
thankful unto you!

REST IN PEACE OUR FRIEND – YOU WILL BE MISSED
